Debuting on the 4th, The Heist is set to be an interactive experience- merging an action-packed storyline about a bank robbery with DJs.  The event includes exclusive performances from DJ Hype & Slamboree Soundsystem as well as a series of characters that will guide you through the story. Taking place in Colab House by London Bridge, this event is certainly not one to miss.  Audience members will be plunged into the world of the characters and an energetic club environment where they will be taken on a theatrical walk-through experience. Netflix's 'The Order' Review

Image
Netflix's 'The Order' Series 1 Review The Order. An entertaining Sci Fi fantasy series with a target audience of older teens and young adults. Following primarily the life of Jack Morton (Jake Manley), a first-year student at Belgrave University, it explores the conflict he experiences between two secret societies, The Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose and the Knights of St Christopher. Within the first couple of episodes, most of the new pledges of the Blue Rose (neophytes) are violently killed and Jack takes it upon himself to investigate into how and why. With the persistence of his obsessive and at times dismissive grandfather Pete (Matt Frewer) pressurising him, Jack works to uncover the dark truths of the Blue Rose and take vengeance on the man who supposedly caused his mother’s death.  Created by Dennis Heaton and Shelley Eriksen, The Order, in my opinion, is the new and perhaps darker version of shows like Teen Wolf and The Vampire Diaries. With its comedic n...

Decluttering Your Student House

Image
Decluttering your student house- Three Years of House Horrors  Photo by Jason Leung on Unsplash I ’ve had my fair share of student house horror stories at Warwick. As a final year student, I’ve been looking back at all of the nightmarish experiences I’ve had, and I thank my lucky stars that I can go home and (hopefully) will never have to deal with the likes of them again. Let’s start at the beginning with the organisational disaster that was my room in first year. To get to my bed, I had to climb over an overwhelming heap of stuff. You couldn’t see the carpet because it was piled up to my knees with stacks of things. My housemates decided to help organise my room because it was in such a disarrayed state. It took eleven hours before I could see carpet. Eleven  long  hours. My second year was similarly eventful. A particular horror story that stands out is a time when I left my Weetos box in my room and went home for the weekend. When I came back, there w...

Poetry for Children

The Piccadilly Zoo The Piccadilly Zoo, The Piccadilly Zoo, All the monkeys there go moo, The dogs wink, The cats sing. All the children stand on their tootsies, Ignoring all the teachers looksies, The elephants ROAR, And all the children scream for MORE! The Piccadilly Zoo, The Piccadilly Zoo, That’s the place for me and you. So shimmy and run, The train leaves at one, So be quick,  And don’t take the mick  Because the Piccadilly Zoo has the most extraordinary exhibit, The one that attracts all the nibbets, It really is a rare view, The special edition of a clean loo.

Womanhood and Femininity poems

I wish I was These clumps of fat which wobble and flap, These shoes that kill, I walk, I can’t feel, These curves that outline and try to define             The way that I feel when I look in the glass The glass that distorts, that lies.  Tells me I’m beautiful then casts me aside. I’m always too short, or too tall or too fat. The reflection that laughs but never smiles back. You wear a long skirt and you look like a nan, Wear trousers and you look like a man. Your hair stands on end so you look like a tree, You cry so often, you’re salty as the sea. Your nose is too big, your hips are too wide, If a man tells you what to do you should always abide. You’re free to fly but you’re trapped in a cage, You’re the protagonist of your story but there’s only one page. I sit back and peel open my eyes, There are blurring colours and the world flashes by.  Being born a new, Once a child, now a woman, Once ...

Nature Poems

Whisper to the sunlight (Free writing poem set to 2/3 minutes).   Swimming elegantly across the pool Splashing and crashing in the waves Pulling and reaching out in front of you The sky as clear as day. Suddenly the darkness creeps in and you can barely breathe. Something is underneath you… And it’s crawling under your feet. You splash and cry out frantically Until you can cry no more. You feel yourself drowning and pulling you to the floor. You whisper to the sunlight as it comes to pass And look at the sun beams reflecting as you take your last long gasp. The waterfall of terror (Task: Write down one noun (type of body of water) and one emotion. Name the poem after the combination of the two and write. Prose poem). Crawling over the edge, gazing at the extraordinary view. One may be fooled by the beauty and innocence it holds. I slip and slide down the cliff face, scratching at the surface with rage. I hit and smothe...

Dancing Your Way to Fitness

Image
Dancing Your Way to Fitness How to stop freaking out about exercise and start losing yourself to the music. Dancing is seen as either something you’re good at, or something at which you fail miserably. And yet nearly everyone does it, whether drunk dance in a club or actually joining a dance club. But is dancing the future replacement of the much-feared gym session and the best way to tackle health issues in the U.K? Many people fear going to the gym and there are many reasons for this. What if you’re using the equipment in the wrong way? You don’t want people to see you struggling and sweating in-between pull-ups. What if it’s busy and people are using all the weight machines? Will I look good in my outfit? Wil I even go after spending all that money on a membership? All these concerns about taking a trip to the gym are irrelevant when you can dance way to your favourite music in the kitchen or buy a Zumba DVD and do it from home. With the increase in dance inspir...

'The Normal Heart' Theatre review- A Student re-staging of a classic

Image
Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart is a heart-wrenching important play, dealing with themes of loneliness, mortality and hopelessness alongside issues of: gay rights, Jewish rights and the AIDS epidemic. Currently running its latest re-staging at Warwick Arts Centre this review is of the performance on the 3 rd May, the third show in the four-night run. Co-directed by Aaron Chote and Theotima Ioannou in conjunction with WUDS, the performance was both honest and powerful, handling the importance of the subject matter with sensitivity and care. The Normal Heart takes on the AIDS crisis sweeping New York in the 1980’s. Following the story of Ned Weeks (Adam Wilmshurst), the founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group, working to instigate change in an ignorant and ostracising society. Whilst struggling to hold his position not only within society but also within the group that he founded, he goes on an emotional journey with his closeted lover Felix Turner which progresses into a bea...
